CCWM STM - Short Term Missions

  • Minimal Physical Stress

A level 1 STM is not necessarily SAFE or EASY, however it is designed to be less stress to the body. Accommodations are roofed with bathrooms and running water with electicity most often provided.

  • Significant Physical Stress

A level 2 STM is not necessarily SAFE or Easy, however, you will be stretched a bit with possible outdoor sleeping, outdoor bathrooms, roughing it without running water. There will be a considerable amount of walking and hiking on a level 2 STM..

  • Significant Safety Risk

A level 3 STM has been deemed unsafe in respect of country instability and national opinion on Christianity. If you are attending a level 3 STM you have decided that you are going regardless of possibility of persecution or high crime areas.

Are you asking these good questions?

  • A STM (short term missions) according to CCWM is implemented with the purpose of taking the Gospel (the message of Christ life, death and resurrection, forgiveness of sin and life abundant) in both proclamation and demonstration.

A healthy STM will be designed in collaboration with the local missionaries and will be developed as a learning/growth opportunity for those participating. The aim is to assist the missionary in ways the locals and the missionary themself are unable to do without assistance from a team. This may be unpacked in various capacities from financial giving, medical related, team building with the missionaries staff, teaching, VBS and camp creating and implementing, simply being with the missionary at work AND more.

Mission Tourism - Can be defined as attending a mission trip where the participant is invited solely to bring a western eye to the ministry in order to gain financial support. In this case the participant may be asked to do a task the local can already perform on their own in order to give the participant an act of service with their time in country. In this instance the participant may be taking away work from someone in country who could easily execute the task. The participant feels more like they are in a well oiled machine of service rather than in a situation where both the missionary, the participant and the people in country are experiencing God at work in all three.

It is our aim at CCWM to avoid mission tourism and set our goal on Short Term Mission.

  • Short-term Missions have earned their reputation in many cases as being a waste of time and even unhelpful to the missionary. This is unfortunate as we at CCWM see STM as an effective arm of the sending responsibility we have to our missionaries.

With proper training and equipping, a short-term team can be very effective to assist the missionary and their family in community building and engagement with those back home. This is a necessary part of sending, to not forget those we have sent.

A short-term team can bring skill to the missionary that they do not possess and that perhaps those in the missionary’s community do not posses. In some cases, this skill can be taught and utilized in years to come.

A STM can be spiritually provisional in ways the missionary has not yet been able to achieve. If a short-term trip takes the time to prepare themselves spiritually they are open to hearing God in new ways and this can serve to encourage the missionary and strengthen the overall ministry.

These are just a few of the ways a STM can be effective to the missionary and those the participants will serve in country.

STMs are also affective for those participating as they are open to learning and seeing God’s world and God’s people in new ways they may not have experienced before. Short term missions connect us to the body of Christ in nations we have not yet gone to. STMs teach us about ourselves and our ability to learn and grow in our faith and in our personal habits.

  • Yes.

As mentioned above in the previous questions, short-term trips can be very detrimental to the missionary, the participant and the people in country if done without thought, consideration and prayer.

A STM must be spirit led and done in humility.

A STM that is a missions tourism trip is highly detrimental to the community the participant it aims to serve.

At CCWM we believe that STMs are a connection to the body of Christ and that done in collaboration with the missionary and be highly effective in bringing powerful Gospel transformation to the participant, the missionary and the in country people we serve.

  • Yes, if you are planning to attend a mission tourism trip.

No, if you are planning to attend a STM that has been collaborated with the missionary, led by those who are full of God’s Spirit, ready to learn and grow, eager to connect with the larger body of Christ.

In many cases, if not all, money does not solve the problem. God built us for community and the aim of CCWM is to bring willing participants to meet with, collaborate with, learn from and grow with our on field missionaries and those they have gone to serve.

  • NOTE: COUNTRY NAME WILL BE RELEASED AT INFO MEETING

he CCWM STM to an undisclosed country located in the Middle East is unlike any other type of short term trip to Christianized lands (America, Latin America, Europe, much of Africa).

Christians in this part of the world exist as a tolerated minority who are at times persecuted. You will not be doing the sorts of things that happen on many such trips: VBS (illegal to work with people under 18 without signed parental permission), construction, open evangelism, passing out Bibles (illegal), etc.

Instead, you will identify with both believers here and those who work among them – learning discretely while sharing the hope of Jesus. Thus, it is not a “doing” trip in the normal way of thinking. It is more subtle – it is learning, praying, visioning, discerning, and identifying with.

This trip will largely focus on raising your awareness of the needs of the “least-reached with the Gospel.” This country is over 98% Muslim with a tiny fraction of 1% being some sort of Christian (this includes all varieties both ancient and modern).

Foreign workers are routinely evicted from the country if the government tires of their presence (they consider them to be undermining the social order and label them terrorists – their way of getting around “freedom of religion” that they say they uphold).

You will spend considerable time learning about the least-reached, Islam, the current move of God here, praying for the city, participating while observing, and gaining a heart for people in this part of the world. The hope is that you will either engage as a worker yourself, mobilize others to go, support others who are going, and otherwise champion the neglected least-reached gospel.

This trip is led by experienced long term Believers devoted to serving God in this nation.

“I’m so grateful I got to be a part of this trip. And after seeing the work of our medical staff, I feel more able to stick out the years of schooling, if it means I can bless people the way our team did. I’m excited for whatever’s next, and I know a little better that this is what I’m called to do. So thank you for making it possible for me to GO. This trip was dear to my heart, and I’m so grateful to everyone who made it happen.”
